Institute for Integrative Genome Biology

Bioinformatics Core

The Bioinformatics Core runs a workshop program on the analysis of genomes, array data, programming in R, clustering, data mining, cheminformatics, and parallel computing on clusters that is available to campus students and researchers. About 10% of the participants are from external universities and biotech companies across California. Frequently, the facility receives requests to teach these courses in other states in the US or in Europe. The extensive online material for these courses has been downloaded by several thousand scientists from international locations, and the information may be published in an educational book series. Online manuals for these courses and the workshop schedule are available on the Bioinformatics web portal. The current suite of hands-on workshops that are fully instructed by the personnel of the facility, includes:

  1. Introduction into R
  2. Microarray Analysis with R & BioConductor
  3. Programming in R
  4. Clustering and Data Mining in R
  5. Searching and Clustering Drug-like Compounds in R
  6. LINUX Essentials
  7. Large-Scale Computing on the Bioinfo LINUX Cluster
  8. Introduction into EMBOSS
  9. GCG Basics

To diversify the available workshop topics, the facility manages a joint bioinformatics workshop program with City of Hope and Loma Linda University. The mission of this initiative is to stimulate collaborations between the sites and to share educational and computational resources.
