Training

WORKSHOPS

Description

Training is available regularly and on demand to students, postdocs, technicians and faculty members who want to use the resources of the Noel T. Keen Hall Microscopy Facility in their research. Currently,15-20 workshops are offered per year.  Training will be sufficient to get you started on using the featured equipment, and refresher tips will be provided at no extra charge during the first few booked usage sessions.

Sessions typically take place on Tuesday-Thursday mornings between 9am and 12pm, and involve both a theory presentation and hands-on demonstration. Class sizes are kept between 4 and 10 to allow sufficient hands-on activity.  Participants are encouraged to bring examples of their own experimental needs, to discuss the feasibility of different approaches, and to note any particular experimental problems or questions they would like addressed.

For smaller instruments, training is handled individually in a one-hour hands-on training session. Users will only be charged for instrument time used, and for certain high cost consumables (lab-tec dishes, laser capture membrane slides and caps etc.).  Less expensive supplies like cover glasses, wipes, plain slides and CDs are provided free of charge for use within the facility.
