Research Summary:

A large amount of Chemical research is devoted to making tools that benefit Biological research. We are coupling protein engineering and synthetic chemistry with light spectroscopy and microscopy, to investigate the underlying biology of living organisms. Our research aims at increasing our knowledge of fundamental biology and diseases by employing engineered molecular tools to manipulate and analyze biochemical dynamics in living cells and animals.

We are currently exploring in the following directions:

  • Biosensors for chemicals of environmental and biological interests

  • Bioorthogonal chemistry targeting cellular structure and dynamics

  • Photochemical genetics and applications in cell and synthetic biology

  • Novel methods and applications of protein engineering

  • Thiol-based redox regulation & signaling and implications in diabetes
