Bacterial pathogens of plants, focusing on the bacterium that causes Pierce's disease of grapevines, Xylella fastidiosa.  Research on this pathogen includes genetic and phenotypic characterization of different strain types, functional genomics to identify virulence factors, and interactions with its insect vector, the glassy-winged sharpshooter.
